Only Imagine

imagine, a world without fear
it’s been so long
imagine, a scorched earth
forced to come back here so soon
never felt right
never felt such low self-worth

I imagine you,
playing safely with your toys
helicopters flying over
hellish noise
explosions all around
playing with rubble right after
not a sound
no more laughter
only prayers and tears, left
only after an arduous journey
leaving death behind at sea
reaching shore, lead to cheers
short lived joy

imagine what came next
hope turned to dead ends
imagine a family
torn apart further
separated mentally
picture a boy or a girl
for themselves they have to fend
a cold rotten meal
a reflection of my world

imagine me,
trying my hardest to get up
every day
muster up some energy and courage
a class here, some practice there
trying to make it my way
through this dumping ground
now sitting here with head in hands
watching, it burned down

imagine, the unimaginable
having to accept a life imprisoned
imagine waiting, to start again
do not understand why I am here
like an animal, bound
escaped hell once
found our way back round

imagine being lost
feeling welcome?
it’s been so long
I forgot what that feels like
cannot imagine
why our existence, seems so wrong
