A day of liberation, 75 years it has been
since World War 2 came to an end
affected my kin directly
both grandmothers told war stories
of hiding and hunger
firmly divided ever since
split ways for decades
food taken out of siblings mouths
cannot imagine living on rations
a tense situation turned bitter, sour
could not forget
even if they wanted to
we need to be reminded of what we forgot
to remember every year
sweet words spoken
hollow, as history has repeated itself
abandoning people from Africa
and the Middle-East
celebrating that we, are now free
hypocrisy, clear in the eyes who choose to see
grateful for old folk tales
and people who sacrificed, so I could have a life
a day of salutation
respect to the soldiers, young men and old
used live rounds to bring about peace
don’t sing about non-violence
2 minutes of silence
no sound, show respect to the deceased
