My name is Jelle Wassenaar, a poetry writer from the Netherlands who’s also involved in the humanitarian field. I started to write rap lyrics during my teenage years, which somehow naturally evolved into poetry in my twenties. My experiences in recent years are with people who have fled war, poverty, persecution who are forced to live in centres and camps.

With life experience and reading other people’s work, I have tried to use different writing styles and cover more topics as well as try to use poetry to express gratitude, be more positive in my approach and write about the simple things in life. My early work and still plenty is quite critical, negative and political.

Writing works therapeutic and it has helped me to deal with some of the issues I expand(ed) upon. So while I don’t necessarily agree with views expressed in past poems, I share them as it might resonate with someone and help to process their own feelings. By putting my thoughts and emotions in poems, I have given them a place and it has helped me to be in the moment.

See, I try to be more in the present, in the now and acceptive of the past, which has helped my spiritual growth. As I started to look back on my past work, I noticed quite an amount was written with the ego and my brain at the forefront. As I am on a spiritual journey to distance myself more from the ego, I have tried to write from the heart and just let it speak.

I appreciate you for visiting my page. I hope you enjoy my work, can take something from it and will share with others if you like it. Thank you!
