Oh Afghanistan

the playground of outside forces
kicked around without a care
over 50 years coming
the beginning of your demise
the goal was never to win
use and abuse for some gain
armed the vile and fuelled the extreme
condemned the women
can we sense how intense, their pain
the most inhumane I ever saw
when we all left you and your babies
for dead, all hiding behind a law
one bearded, brandishing a gun
hiding faces to oppress
one suited, sitting, sleeping
trying to save face and impress
both indifferent to ones on the run
a complex situation
a country so diverse
so many in the wrong here
don’t even know which is worse
the lies and deceit by foreign nations
or the Taliban’s rule
hear the cries of whoever’s left
in devastation
the hope of a people, hurt
holding on to their breaths
feeling abandoned by the words held dear
fearing for the lives far and near
a familiar world will return for all those faces
look into their eyes, anguish and agony
all here to witness your lost traces
