Careless Sharing

our opinions, thoughts and emotions
shared far and wide
there is no distinction, no filter
all is allowed, nothing to hide
the freedom we cherish
and worship
have we struck gold?
or covered something ugly
and mundane
lost track of what a medium said
we would gain
I see a sad state of humanity
stripped naked and whipped
entitlement without a name
in a world of avatars
so blue
a hidden beauty?
all I see is a bad view
into the shallow depths
of the honest and sincere
ironically only spoken
from behind a wall
dare not speak in front
follow a crowd
into a cybernetic battlefield
who’s side you on?
a reaction in bad language
loud, and foul mouthed
no spelling check
no facts check either
just screaming all caps
how you right and them WRONG
everyone playing tag
jumping into the game at any moment,
any time
by the end of it
does anyone know where it started
wasted energy on likes and dislikes
all guilty of a crime
against ourselves
it’s not productive
who cares what we think
asocial and self centered
not conducive for your health
individualism at its peak
I fear it’s out of hand
a certain truth has been spoken
some things we always thought?
kept to ourselves
in any case, now we finally share
fake news, unvarnished
civilisation made up
our image tarnished
is this how I truly feel?
or just a sign post
who I am online, unaware
